LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Tuesday gave final approval to legislation sponsored by Sen. Kevin Daley that honors Michigan’s Blue Star Families.
“I am thrilled this bill has been signed and is now state law,” said Daley, R-Lum. “Blue Star Mothers do incredible work and handle a difficult and emotional task. They spend every day honoring those who serve our country and providing endless care to their families back home.”
Senate Bill 118, now Public Act 51 of 2020, will require the secretary of state to develop and issue a special recognition license plate recognizing Blue Star Families. Residents who are currently serving in the U.S. armed forces — or members of their immediate family — will be able to apply for the new special recognition plate.
The plate will include a Blue Star Families insignia and the words “Blue Star Family” under the registration numbers.
“I am proud to have worked on this legislation,” Daley said. “I want to thank everyone who lent their time and effort in getting this legislation introduced and facilitating it through the legislative process.”
