LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Kevin Daley on Thursday introduced a resolution that would recognize the month of April as Donate Life Month.
“This is a cause that is personal to me,” said Daley, R-Lum. “My son Thomas passed away 11 years ago and today his heart and his legacy lives on in the lives of others. Last year, organ donations from generous Michiganders helped the lives of over 1,000 people, and I hope, through this resolution, we can continue to grow that number and help more people.”
Senate Resolution 120 would designate April as Donate Life Month in Michigan, seeking to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation.
Organ donation can save up to eight lives and improve the lives of even more people. Daley encouraged everyone, especially during Donate Life Month, to register to become an organ donor, calling it a decision that could save someone’s life.
“Countless people have had their lives saved or enhanced through the generosity of others, though, unfortunately many did not make it while waiting for a transplant,” Daley said. “I encourage more people to register to become an organ donor and help provide someone with a renewed hope for a healthy life.”
People can register to become an organ donor online by clicking here or visit their local secretary of state’s office.
SR 120 was adopted after a unanimous vote by the Senate.
