Sen. Daley leads moment of silence in honor of MSP trooper who died in the line of duty

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Kevin Daley led the Michigan Senate in a moment of silence Thursday in honor of state police Trooper Joel Popp, who died late Wednesday from injuries sustained while making a traffic stop on I-75 near Birch Run Road.

“Last night, in the line of duty during a routine traffic stop, this dedicated trooper paid the ultimate price as he worked to keep our community safe… Let us reflect on the selflessness, courage, and commitment this trooper displayed in protecting us all. May our thoughts and prayer surround their family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” said Daley, R-Lum, before leading the Senate in a moment of silence.

Popp, 39, had served out of the Tri-City Post in Freeland since January 2020. He is survived by his wife Stefanie and their young daughter.
