Sen. Daley, more than 30 legislators, call on MSU trustees to include agricultural representation in presidential search

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Kevin Daley on Thursday assembled a bipartisan coalition of legislators to call on the Michigan State University’s Board of Trustees to add representation from the state’s agriculture industry on the institution’s recently announced presidential search committee.

Daley, R-Lum, gathered support from 31 other state legislators who signed a letter he authored to the MSU’s trustees urging them to correct the oversight. The university’s board announced its 29-member presidential search committee early this week.

“While I am confident there was no malice behind this omission, it is still deeply concerning no person appointed to this large committee comes to the table from the agricultural industry the very roots of the university and a major part of this state’s economy,” Daley said. “From its beginnings as Michigan Agricultural College, MSU has been a leader in critical agricultural research and educational opportunities for more than 150 years. I hope the board takes quick action to add this vital voice to this important committee.”
